Yesterday in La Crosse, State Senator Brad Pfaff (D-32) stressed the urgency of Democrats addressing Wisconsin’s housing crisis and cutting costs for first-time home buyers. He was joined by La Crosse County Board Supervisors Grant Mathu and Kelly Liebold, who spoke to the ever-growing need for housing options in La Crosse and across the state. With Supervisor Grant Mathu saying,

“I know so many people who want to plant roots in La Crosse County, who want to live here, contribute, and work hard. But it’s very difficult when you can’t afford rent or your mortgage.”

Seeking to address concerns like Grant’s, State Senate Democrats introduced the Affordable Wisconsin Legislative Package. On Tuesday, Senator Pfaff focused on the Health and Housing package, laying out the four bills that have already been introduced and rejected by Republicans in Madison:

  • Expanding the Homestead Tax Credit
  • Banning hedge funds from buying single-family homes
  • Banning algorithmic rent hikes
  • Improving Wisconsin’s housing stock

As Democrats prepare to govern from the majority, Senator Pfaff and his colleagues are putting forward solutions that will be ready to be introduced on day one.
