Senate Democrats Visit Christmas Tree Farm, Spotlight Rising Holiday Costs

Continuing the Affordability tour, Senate Democrats visited the Jensen Christmas tree farm in Verona. Democratic leader Senator Dianne Hesselbein, State Senators Kelda Roys, Sarah Keyeski, and Melissa Ratcliff, along with State Representative Jacobson, toured the small business, discussing the challenges small businesses are facing this holiday season.

Small business owners like the Jensens have been doing their best to keep prices low for their customers, but runaway inflation spurred on by tariffs has left them with fewer options. The legislators were inspired by Mr. Jensen’s resilience and determination to keep their product affordable, but remain concerned that rising costs continue to squeeze family-owned farms and businesses.

The 2025 holiday season has already been more expensive for Wisconsinites than last year, with the cost of Thanksgiving dinners increasing by 7%. This is simply unsustainable; Wisconsin families cannot continue to be strained by skyrocketing prices, especially during an already stressful time of year.

Senate Democrats’ central focus remains on lowering the price of everyday goods and ensuring that Wisconsin builds an economy that gives everyone the opportunity to attain a high quality of life.
